Marvel confirmed earlier rumors by officially announcing that Ryan Coogler of Rocky sequel "Creed" fame will be directing its upcoming film, "Black Panther," according to Deadline.
"We are fortunate to have such an esteemed filmmaker join the Marvel family," producer Kevin Feige said on Monday, according to Marvel. "The talents Ryan showcased in his first two films easily made him our top choice to direct 'Black Panther.'"
"Many fans have waited a long time to see Black Panther in his own film, and with Ryan we know we've found the perfect director to bring T'Challa's story to life," Feige added.
Chadwick Boseman will star in the superhero flick as Black Panther himself, prince of Marvel Universe's fictional nation of Wakanda. Boseman will be making his debut as the superhero in the highly anticipated "Captain America: Civil War," which is slated to hit theaters on May 6, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Coogler's first feature-length film was 2013's "Fruitvale Station" with Michael B. Jordan. "Creed" had a successful run at the box office, raking in $119 million in collections and also won Sylvester Stallone a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture.
