Jamie Foxx will star alongside "Kingsman: The Secret Service" star Taron Egerton in "Robin Hood: Origins." The Lionsgate project, directed by Otto Bathurst, will feature the "Django Unchained" star in the role of Robin Hood's second-in-command, Little John, and is expected to start filming late summer or fall soon after Egerton finishes working on the "Kingsman" sequel.
The film stars Egerton as Robin Hood himself and Eve Hewson, who plays the character of Maid Marian. Joby Harold will write the screenplay whereas Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way will produce the project, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Foxx's character has been described as "a battle-hardened but war-weary veteran of The Crusades who starts out distrustful of Robin Hood (they fought on opposite sides), and then warms to the young hero in the gritty revisionist take on the legend," according to Deadline.
The film follows the story of Robin Hood, who returns home after fighting in The Crusades to find that Sherwood Forest has become a hotbed of corruption and evil and in order to fight back, he puts together a band of outlaws to rid Nottingham of the wrong-doers.
Foxx recently finished working on "Sleepless Night," the remake of 2011's French thriller "Nuit Blanche" along with co-star Michelle Monaghan and is set to star alongside Ansel Elgort and Lily James in Edgar Wright's upcoming thriller, "Baby Driver," according to Slash Film.
