A Kat Von D lipstick shade called "Debutard" is being pulled from the shelves of Sephora where it's sold after a developmental disabilities group called it insensitive, USA Today reported.
Emily Norman, a parent of a four-year-old daughter who has developmental delays and ADHD, and a two-year old son with Down syndrome, saw the ad for the lipstick while browsing online, according to Atlanta's 11Alive report.
"I could not believe that a successful company in 2013 would use such a derogatory and mocking name for their lipstick," Norman told 11Alive. "It's more than that to millions of families with children that are trying to stop the use of a word that is so offensive."
Parents and developmental disabilities group began to protest the lipstick shade, bringing in "Glee" actress Lauren Potter who has Down syndrome, according to New York Magazine.
In a statement Sephora apologized and said it would no longer sell that shade of lipstick.
"It has come to our attention that the name of one shade of a lipstick we carry has caused offense to some of our clients and others. We are deeply sorry for that, and we have ceased sale of that shade both in our stores and online," USA Today reported.
According to Faith Bodnar, who is the executive director of a non-profit group that promotes the inclusion of people with developmental disabilities in community life, the lipstick shade name Celebutard, a reference to "not-so-bright" celebrities that references "retard" is offensive, USA Today reported.
Kat Von D, who is most known for her part in "L.A. Ink", tweeted, and then deleted: "At the end of the day, it's just a (explicit) lipstick," according to People magazine.
