Louisville (7-1) bounced back from a 38-35 loss against UCF with a win on Oct. 26 over South Florida. For the Cardinals, the UCF loss was an eye-opening and humbling experience, something the team is eager not to repeat. It showed in Louisville's 34-3 rout of USF.
"That loss, it allowed us to check ourselves," Cardinals cornerback Jermaine Reve said, via the Associated Press. "We didn't want to have that feeling again because we really had that game in our hands. Once that happened, we were disappointed as players because we have high expectations.
"It really allowed us to get that, not so much arrogance, (but) that deep confidence that no one can do anything against our defense."
Cardinals defensive end Lorenzo Mauldin added: "We really needed that (win). I know there's a lot of people out there saying that we didn't play up to our ability against UCF. We had to put our statement back out there, basically saying we needed to beat USF to get back on track."
Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater has continued to impress this season. He's completed 73.7 percent of his passes for 2,557 yards, 23 touchdowns and two interceptions.
Connecticut, meanwhile, is looking for its first win of the season. The 0-7 Huskies got the better of the Cardinals last season in a 23-20 win that took three overtimes to achieve. Connecticut is coming off a 62-17 blowout on Oct. 26 at the hands of UCF.
