"Fast and Furious" mastermind Justin Lin will now take over the reigns of the "Bourne" franchise and will direct the fifth film in the series.
Justin Lin's "Fast & Furious" has created a cult of its own in the film industry. Fast cars, handsome hunks, gorgeous girls and lots of action spell a magic potion for success. The director is now looking to expand his horizons and will be seen trying his hand in another cult-creating project - the Bourne franchise. Yes! You heard right. The Taiwanese-born American film director has been roped in to direct the fifth edition in the Bourne series.
The new project is a follow-up to 2012's "The Bourne Legacy" and will continue the adventures of Aaron Cross, the character played by Jeremy Renner. Lin will join returning producer Frank Marshall as well as Jeffrey Weiner and Ben Smith from Captivate.
Progress of the "Bourne 5" film has been slow since September when Paul Greengrass, who directed the second and third "Bourne" films, shot down rumors that he was returning to the franchise for the next installment.
"It's a figment of someone's imagination," Greengrass said of the report. "Listen, I loved the Bourne movies. I loved making them but it's like anything in life: you've got to move on and do different things."
Lin, who was director of "Fast & Furious," "Fast Five" and "Fast Six," didn't return to direct the seventh film slated for a July release next year due to scheduling issues.
"For me to say, 'Hey, guys, I've got to take a little break because I've been developing a lot of stuff' -- as a filmmaker, I'm itching to go and explore, definitely," Lin told HuffPost Entertainment.
