René Angélil: Céline Dion Cancels Las Vegas Concerts Following Husband's Death

Following the death of her husband René Angélil on Jan. 14, Céline Dion has made the personal decision to cancel some of her upcoming concerts at Caesar's Palace Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

"With heavy hearts, we regret to inform you that Celine performances Saturday, Jan. 16 and Sunday, Jan. 17 at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace have been cancelled," the official statement on her Las Vegas residency website reads. "Celine earlier today announced the death of her husband Rene Angelil after a long fight with cancer. The couple had celebrated their 21st wedding anniversary last month...All of us at AEG and at Caesars Palace have Celine and her children in our thoughts and prayers."

The statement then went on to explain that she will resume her performances on Feb. 23. They also apologized to all the fans that were planning on coming to see her this weekend and explained that they will receive full refunds for their ticket purchases.

Angélil, who was 73 years old, passed away at his home in Las Vegas on Thursday morning "after a long and courageous battle against cancer," as HNGN previously reported. After being diagnosed with throat cancer in December 2013, officials have confirmed that this was the cause of death.

The Clark County Office states Angélil died from the cancer under the care of a physician, according to E! News. The technical medical description of the cause of death is "squamous carcinoma of the floor of the mouth."

"We have determined Mr. Angélil's death was due to natural causes," the coroner explained. "NO further investigation into his death is expected. Our condolences go out to Mr. Angélil's family and friends during this difficult time for them."

He and Dion met when she was just 12 years old. He eventually become her manager and the two got married in 1994. He is survived by their three children René-Charles, 14, and 5-year-old twins Nelson and Eddie. He also has three adult children, Anne-Marie, Patrick and Jean-Pierre, from a previous relationship.
