Amal Clooney Says Fame Hasn’t Changed Her In First U.S. TV Interview (VIDEO)

Amal Clooney is George Clooney's wife, but she is also much more than that. The human rights lawyer sat down for her first American TV interview Friday morning with NBC. In the interview, Clooney spoke about her passion for her work as a human rights lawyer, her newfound fame and of course her husband.

"I think it's wonderful celebrities would choose to spend their time or energy or, you know, the spotlight that they have to raise awareness about these causes," the Oxford graduate said of human rights. "I don't really see myself in the same way because I'm still doing the same job that I used to do before. So, if there's more attention paid for whatever reason ... then I think it's good."

Amal said she is still getting used to her new-found fame but thinks there is a "certain responsibility that comes with" it.

The internationally acclaimed lawyer married her husband in 2014 after they reportedly starting dating in 2013, according to the Huffington Post. She is currently representing former Maldives president Mohamed Nasheed, who was imprisoned and convicted of terrorism last March and was sentenced to 13 years in jail, People reported.

"I think it's important for tourists to know the facts of what's happening in the Maldives," she continued. "I don't think people realize that there's a flogging taking place a kilometer away when they're sunbathing in their resort."

While Amal knows her mission is tough, she is prepared for battle.

"If you are a lawyer and you want to take on easier cases you can prosecute traffic violations or something. You'd have a very high rate of success and you probably could sleep more easily at night," she said. "But that's not what drives me. I want to work on cases that I feel the most passionate about."
