About a month has gone by since Steve Harvey accidently announced the wrong winner at the 2015 Miss Universe pageant, and he has finally had the chance to apologize face-to-face to Miss Colombia, who was accidently crowned the winner.
Harvey and Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez have had the chance to sit down and talk for the first time since the historic mistake for an interview together on "Al Rojo Vivo," a Spanish language news program on the Telemundo network, according to Design Trend. In the interview, Harvey apparently gave a detailed explanation of exactly what happened that night and apologized to Gutierrez. She also reveals whether or not she has already forgiven him. The interview is slated to air on Tuesday Jan. 19 at 4 p.m.
Another interview between the two is set to air during a two-day special on Harvey's own talk show called "Miss Universe: The Truth," according to NBC. This special event will air on Monday, Jan. 18 and Tuesday, Jan. 19.
The first part of the special will feature an "Ask Steve" segment where he allows audience members to ask whatever question is on their mind, and he says "nothing is off limits." During this segment, he reveals some personal details about his life since the mistake.
"Death threats against your family," he shockingly admitted. "I can't let my kids go nowhere. That's difficult."
Part one of the special will also include Harvey's interview with Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach, who actually won the Miss Universe competition. His interview with Gutierrez will take place during the part two of the special on Tuesday.
"This has caused a lot of sleepless nights for me," he explains. "I didn't do any interviews until I could talk to the two people who were affected the most, Pia and Ariadna. No matter how tough it was for me, I can't imagine how it was for these two women. This finally gives me a chance to have a moment of closure."
During the interview with Wurtzbach, she explains exactly what it was like going through that incident and finally finding out she won the crown. She also reveals her true thoughts on how she felt when they had to take the crown from Miss Colombia.
"When I was standing there, I was very happy that I won, I was excited," she explains to Harvey. "But I was also thinking about her, and I couldn't help but think about how tough this must be for her."
Apparently, apologizing to Gutierrez face-to-face was an extremely meaningful moment for Harvey, and he even begged her for forgiveness, sources have told TMZ. They even revealed that "he sobbed and sobbed" during his apology.
While Gutierrez has had to live with what she calls a "humiliating" moment, things could be worse. After his show, she went on to do an interview with "Today" and shoot a cover for People Espanol Magazine.
"Ariadna thought having the crown taken away was the worst day of her life. She now realizes it was the best day," another source told TMZ. "She's making a fortune!"
Earlier this month, Harvey explained his only regret from the night of the pageant on the "Steve Harvey Morning Show."
"I don't feel sorry for me, I don't feel sorry for the pageant - the pageant will now be bigger than it's ever been. My only regret is how this woman must have felt. And none of us can know what that is," he said at the time, as HNGN previously reported. "I felt for her more than me, because, look I'm just a man, I'm out here, I ain't been waiting for all my life for this moment. When I did it, it was horrible for Miss Colombia...She's the only one I haven't had a chance to talk to...Now have I tried? Yes. But I haven't gotten a response."
