Neil Patrick Harris is head back to television following the failure of his NBC variety show. The multi-talented performer will star in the Netflix adaptation of the "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events" book series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Harris will play the pivotal role of Count Olaf, the evil uncle who takes over guardianship of his recently orphaned nieces and nephew - Violet, Klaus - with villainous designs on their family fortune.
Jim Carrey portrayed the Count Olaf in the 2004 movie based children's book series written by Daniel Handler, who uses the pen name Lemony Snicket. Handler will serve as an executive producer and the film's director Brad Silberling will also direct the Netflix series.
The casting coincides with showrunner Mark Hudis exiting the project. Netflix has not announced a replacement or official premiere date.
