Phones 4u, one of the leading retailers in the U.K., is running an impressive deal to attract customers' toward Samsung's not-so-impressive wearable tech. A week-long promotion offers a free Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch for those who purchase Galaxy Note 3 on a two-year contract.
The attractive deal follows a series of complaints against the Galaxy Gear, which resulted in the return of nearly one third of all the sold units across Best Buy stores. The smartwatch has not been able to create any buzz among the tech aficionados and the new deal from Phones 4u is still worth a shot considering the device tags along with a new Note 3.
Phones 4u has already initiated the promotional offer, which ends next Thursday, November 14. So it is the right time for interested buyers to grab their Galaxy Note 3 and get a Gear watch free. The watch usually sells for £299 ($479) in the UK.
The retailer is offering the deal via EE, but not with Vodafone, Orange or T-Mobile. Buyers can choose from a list of different monthly deals. The Galaxy Note 3, inclusive of Gear smartwatch and free wireless speaker on 4G orders, can be bought for as low as £42.99 ($69) a month with zero down payment, and goes as high as £74.99 ($120) for 50GB data on 4G tariff. Buyers can also avail the free watch offer by paying a one-off cost of £99.99 ($160) and pay £39.99 ($64) a month.
The Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch has not been at par with most of the wearable tech gadgets in the market, such as the Pebble smartwatch. The device drew criticism for its low battery life, it has to be charged every day.
But it is not all downhill for the Gear smartwatch. It has some impressive features like a 1.6-inch Super AMOLED 320 x 320 and a 1.9 megapixel camera. It allows users to make phone calls and read messages from the small screen. But due to the lack of that something extra, customers did not show much interest. Samsung, on the other hand, is working to improve the device performance in the near future. Hopefully, the company would be able grab the attention of new buyers. Until then, Phones 4u deal is not a bad one at all if you want to get your hands on the Gear smartwatch without putting a big hole in your pocket.
