Michelle Tanner's successful business in New York City will keep her from the Tanner family homecoming that is "Fuller House," but creator Jeff Franklin hasn't given up hope on Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen reprising their iconic role on the Netflix reboot of "Full House."
The Olsen twins declined multiple invitations by Franklin and other cast members to return for the new Netflix series. Most of the "Full House" stars signed on to reprise their roles in some capacity. Candace Cameron Bure (D.J. Tanner), Jodie Sweetin (Stephanie Tanner) and Andrea Barber (Kimmy Gibbler) will headline the show that follows their story 20 years after the original ABC sitcom was cancelled.
"I tried. We all tried to persuade them to come and play. They decided not to at this time," Franklin told reporters at the Television Critics Association winter press tour on Sunday. "We're hopeful at some point in the future, they may change their minds and reprise Michelle. We only need one of them!"
The executive producer also downplayed any hurt feelings between the show and the Olsen twins. Their real-life careers as fashion designers inspired the grown-up version of Michelle Tanner, who is also building her own fashion empire in New York City.
"It wasn't meant to be a dig," Franklin said. "It was meant to be a playful wink."
"Fuller House" will premiere on Friday, Feb. 26 on Netflix.
