Modular Robotics, a Colorodo-based tech firm, has introduced robot kits dubbed as "Moss" that let you control self-designed robots via Bluetooth devices.
Who didn't love playing with those colorful building blocks sets that you got as birthday presents. The excitement of finally finishing a model of a pyramid, robot, a car or even a superbike, was totally out of the world. If only those models could be controlled with a remote to move around your living area or the porch! Nevertheless, there is no age bar for having fun. You can fulfill your desires of building a robot of your choice and controlling it with a smartphone. Yes! That's possible and is being developed as we speak.
Modular Robotics, Boulder, Colorado-based tech firm, has introduced a robot construction system called "Moss." The new system lets you build your own robot and you get to control it too with your Bluetooth-enabled device. It does not require any hardcore engineering course or coding or even wiring. It can be built effortlessly. Moss uses over-molded neodymium, "rare earth," magnets and carbon steel ball bearings to build a wide variety of tiny robots, according to the company.
Moss has been launched on the renowned crowd funding site, Kickstarter, to attract people looking for innovative tech gadgets.
Moss has been through several stages of improvements after it was created two-and-half-years ago. Once the product is ready, the blocks can be arranged in different designs to create your own mojo robot. These robots can be charged via a Micro-USB cable and can be powered by a lithium polymer battery.
Moss is available via Kickstarter in different packages, with the Simple Starter Kit for $59, Basic Builder Kit for $99, Shogun Tank for $299, and Advanced Builder Kit for $379. The company also offers combo deals and early birds can get a special discount of $60 on Advanced Builder Kit. In less than a week, (started Nov 7) the pledged goal of $100,000 has been surpassed and (at the time of writing) nearly doubled its targeted goal ($195, 256). The project has attracted 848 backers and has 30 more days to go.
If you like the idea and even if you are not looking to buy one of these robots now, then you can also back the program with a pledge of minimum $1.
The kits will start shipping to the early bidders by early next year. Until then, keep your innovative designs for the robots flowing in.
