‘Ride Along 2’ Box Office: Cop-Comedy Dethrones ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’

"Ride Along 2," the cop-comedy film starring Kevin Hart and Ice Cube, has ended the four-week reign of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" at the top of the box office and is gearing towards a $39.5 million conquest on Martin Luther King Day weekend.

The Disney blockbuster has now fallen to third place, grossing $31 million, while "The Revenant" is expected to gross $35 million over the four days following the 12 Oscar nominations it received, according to The Wrap.

"Ride Along 2" tells the story of a rookie police officer (Hart), who hopes to follow in the footsteps of his future brother-in-law (Ice Cube) as they become entangled in a dangerous drug ring in Miami.

The three aforementioned films were followed by "13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi" and "Daddy's Home," starring Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell. The two films earned $19 million and $11.5 million, respectively.

Rounding up the Top 10 were sixth placer "Norm Of The North" with $8.7 million, "The Forest" at seventh place with $6.5 million, "The Big Short" placing eighth with $6.3 million, "Sisters" at ninth place with $5 million and "The Hateful Eight" at tenth with $4.2 million, according to Gossip Cop.
