SUNY Geneseo: Stabbings Kill Three Students From University

Geneseo Police Department announced Sunday that three student-athletes from the Geneseo State University of New York (SUNY) were all found dead by stabbing. A jealous ex-boyfriend, a former student of SUNY, allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend and another male student then ended up killing himself.

Twenty-four-year-old Colin Kingston allegedly went into 21-year-old Kelsey Annese's flat and found her with another student from North Vancouver, British Columbia, Matthew Hutchinson. Police said Kingston might have arrived into the place while they were sleeping, then stabbed them before killing himself.

"All indications are that Mr. Kingston used the same knife to take his own life," officer Jeffrey Szczensiak said, according to the Associated Press.

Police also added that Kingston phoned his father and informed him of the incident.

"When the phone call was terminated by Colin, shortly thereafter Colin Kingston took his own life," Szczensiak added, according to CNN.

Kingston dated basketball athlete Annese for three years and was reportedly devastated with their recent break-up.

Geneseo SUNY school president, Denise A. Battles, expressed her condolences during a news conference. "I first of all again want to extend my sincere condolences to the families and friends and all of those affected by the deaths of Kelsey, Matt, and Colin. They are undoubtedly experiencing unspeakable grief and they will remain in our thoughts and prayers," Battles said, according to Geneseo SUNY.

The university also provided therapy and counseling for students. "We are making every effort to ensure that needed support is available and have established a web page that has information about available counseling services. Those services are available through 5 p.m. today in Sturges Auditorium. The availability of therapists through the rest of the week are posted on the same webpage, including after-hour counseling services."

A remembrance event will be held in memory of the victims. Check the schedule here.
