Offensive tackle Erik Swenson, out of Downers Grove, Ill., committed to Michigan University back in 2013, but the program has now rescinded their scholarship offer and canceled his previously-scheduled official visit, according to Nick Baumgardner of Mlive.com.
The four-star offensive tackle received a text message regarding the programs decision but did not receive any reason for losing the scholarship. Swenson was the longest-tenured commitment in the Wolverines' 2016 recruiting class and will now have just two weeks before national signing day.
"I would like to thank the University of Michigan community for the love and support. As you all know, I have been committed to Michigan since November 2013, and it was my full intention to play in front of you all in the Big House. God has another plan. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I am reopening my recruitment," wrote Swenson, via his Twitter account. "I will not be making any further comments until I have further clarity into my future. I ask that you respect my family and I during this time."
The Wolverines clearly improved under first-year head coach Jim Harbaugh, finishing the season 10-3, and look to only be heading the right direction with 23 public commitments. Harbaugh has already moved onto recruiting higher-rated offensive lineman E.J. Price, according to DJ Byrnes of Eleven Warriors. Harbaugh has been heavy on the recruiting trail. Whether watching television or climbing trees, the coach with a ton of personality is doing whatever it takes to bring the Wolverines back to the national conversation.
