Alec Baldwin attended court on Tuesday to give testimony against Canadian actress Genevieve Sabourin who has been reportedly stalking him since 2010, the Associated Press reported.
The "30 Rock" actor said it all began in 2000 when they met through mutual friend of his and Sabourin in Montreal for lunch while he was filming "The Adventures of Pluto Nash" in Canada, Reuters reported.
According to Baldwin, that same mutual friend reached out in 2010 and asked if he could give Sabourin some professional advice. Baldwin agreed and met with Sabourin in a New York restaurant in what he describes as "an hour-long chat about her acting prospects," the AP reported. Sabourin said the meeting was a romantic dinner which ended in sexual tryst.
While Baldwin testified, and called the incidents "nightmarish," Sabourin began to yell, and at one point screamed "he's lying," according to the AP. The Manhattan district attorney's office stated this is a case of an acquaintance with a movie star which turned into harassment, but Sabourin insists it was a romance that fell apart.
Baldwin did admit to communicating with her after the dinner, suggesting acting classes, but when her responses turned into a confession of her love for him, he cut off communications, according to the AP.
Baldwin also admitted to sending more sensitive texts with phrases like "happiness is around the corner," which he states was an effort to make her stop with the stalking, the AP reported. Baldwin testified that he was "just trying to pacify her" hoping she'd eventually give up on contacting him.
Shortly after the dinner, Sabourin began leaving Baldwin about 30 voicemails a night, leading Baldwin to disconnect the number he had given her. After the line was disconnected, Sabourin began to send numerous emails which Baldwin states became increasingly aggressive in March, the AP reported.
Sabourin is quoted as writing "Call the FBI now!" in one email, and said she had "easy access" to his New York apartment and told him she would go to his then girlfriend and now wife's yoga classes, according to the AP.
After Baldwin married Hilaria Thomas in March 2012, Sabourin showed up at their Hamptons home, causing the couple to call police after feeling "extremely threatened," but Sabourin left before authorities arrived, according to Baldwin's testimony, the AP reported.
After Sabourin appeared at the Lincoln Center for a movie screening where Baldwin was present, Baldwin had her escorted out, and Thomas testified Sabourin ran towards her as she was exiting the location, the AP reported.
Days later Sabourin appeared in front of the couple's New York apartment leading to her arrest and charge of stalking, the AP reported.
