Back in 2013, Kanye West reportedly whisked Miley Cyrus fresh off the stage of her twerk-tastic MTV Video Music Awards performance to a recording studio, where the pair collaborated on a remix of West's 2013 hit "Black Skinhead" from his album "Yeezus." The remix, which also features rapper Travi$ Scott, was never officially released, but the leaked version surfaced online early Thursday morning, Spin reported.
Cyrus opens the track, singing the first verse, which then leads into a sample of Tears for Fears' 1985 hit "Everybody Wants to Rule the World," which repeats in the chorus.
Throwback 1980s synth drops in with booming 808 drums and the iconic shrill whistle from House of Pain's 1992 hit "Jump Around" rings out behind West's vocal track. His original, abrasive flow cuts deep into the remix, and Cyrus provides a softer touch with her pop auto-tuned vocals. Scott lends deeper melodies on the outro.
Producer Mike Williams, who was behind Cyrus' 2013 hit "We Can't Stop," confirmed that she collaborated with West in 2013 during an interview with Rolling Stone magazine in September of that year.
"We went right back to work," Williams told Rolling Stone at the time. "It's about done, just touching the beat up a little bit. It sound crazy too."
West is gearing up to release "Swish," which is the follow-up to 2013's "Yeezus," as HNGN previously reported. The single for the upcoming album, titled "No More Parties in L.A.," was released last week and features Kendrick Lamar. "Swish" is scheduled for a Feb. 11 release.
