Liverpool offered $34.6 million U.S. (€32 million) to Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk for forward Alex Teixeira's services, according to ESPN. Liverpool's impressive offer for the Brazilian striker might not be enough. Shakhtar values Teixeira at $54 million USD, according to Tony Barrett of The Times.
Money may not be an issue for Liverpool, as the club has been mangled by injuries early in 2016, and manager Jurgen Klopp is eager to bring a player to Anfield who can bolster his club's scoring attack, according to the Metro.
Liverpool only managed to score 22 goals through 25 games in 2015-2016 and is currently without forwards Danny Ings, Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi as well as midfielder Philippe Coutinho.
Teixeira may not be the answer to the club's injury problems. The striker missed Shakhtar's last match with a hamstring injury. But Shakhtar manager Mircea Lucescu doesn't seem concerned, according to The Score.
"I decided not to risk it and rest him," Lucescu said.
The Reds are not the only team vying for Teixeira's services. Premier League rival Chelsea have shown interest in Teixeira, according to the Liverpool Echo, however Chelsea has shown more interest in PSG striker Ezequiel Lavezzi of late.
Teixeira is a threat to score at any time with 26 goals in 15 league matches this season. Liverpool would likely be happy with offense alone, but Teixeira is a versatile midfielder who is defensively responsible and someone his current manager Lucescu speaks highly of, according to the Echo.
"He is the technical leader of my team and should also be the technical leader for Brazil." Lucescu said.
Teixeira is uncapped with his native Brazil, but he managed to score three times in this year's Champions League qualifying with his club team.
