Amazon is bringing in a third option for PlayStation owners to purchase a digital game online via Sony. The new Amazon storefront for digital PS games will bring various digital titles for Sony gaming consoles and also offer $5 PSN credit on select titles.
Owners of PS3 and PS Vita are well aware of the process to purchase a digital game title on the PlayStation Network from the Sony Entertainment Network website or through the console. But that is about to change as Sony is allowing leading retailers to offer digital game titles for PS4, PS3 and PS Vita on the PlayStation Network.
Amazon, the world's largest online retailer, has taken the initiative to offer popular digital game titles for PS3 and PS Vita through its own storefront, PlayStation Network. The retailer hasn't listed the PS4 titles, but will offer them in the near future.
To honor the grand opening of Amazon PlayStation Network store, the online retailer is offering a $5 PSN credit on purchase of select digital games and DLCs. The credit can be applied toward another purchase within the PlayStation Network.
The Amazon PlayStation Network currently offers only 68 titles, but the number will increase with the launch of more games in the future. The online store also sells digital codes for PS Plus subscriptions and gift card codes. Few games that offer $5PSN credit include Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag: Season Pass for $19.99, Batman Arkham Origins: Season Pass for $19.99, Battlefield 4 for PS3, Fifa 14 for $48.99 and more.
The digital PS4 titles are likely to hit the online storefront once the disc-based games hit the stores. The PlayStation 4 will hit the stores in North America Friday, November 15, but the European markets and other territories will get the PS4, November 29.
This move can definitely help Sony boost the sales of PS game titles. With more retailer partners taking the initiative can work in Sony's favor with its PS4 launch.
