The city of Flint, Mich. has been dealing with a water crisis due to the presence of lead in the supply. A federal state of emergency has been declared, and players from the local professional football team, the Detroit Lions, are doing what they can to help out.
Lions defensive end Ezekiel Ansah traveled to Flint on Friday to deliver 94,000 bottles of water, according to Lions reporter Tim Twentyman. It was later reported that Ansah's water donation was from a group of the Lions defensive line including Haloti Ngata, Darryl Tapp, Jason Jones, Gabe Wright, and Caraun Reid.
This is not the first time Ansah has reached out to the Michigan community, as he has visited schools and given money to send children to Detroit Tigers baseball games, according to ESPN's Michael Rothstein. "I am thankful to be in a position to do something about this," said Ansah, via ESPN. "I can only hope this helps as a more permanent solution is being determined. It speaks volumes that my teammates were happy to jump on board and support as well."
Ansah and the Lions defensive line aren't the only people from the NFL who want to help out the city of Flint, as Seahawks running back Thomas Rawls wants to be Superman for his hometown city. The Seahawks undrafted rookie running back made a name for himself in the league before breaking his ankle, and he has not forgotten his roots, as he wants to help Flint in any way he can.
"One thing I can control is do what I can do as far as on my end, and that's going back home, donating, having something around for the city as far as people having free water, stuff like that. Because it's kind of hard when you can't even shower in your own shower, when you can't drink your own water," said Rawls, via ESPN. "Its kind of upsetting to know that I've got nieces and nephews, and (their) skin's breaking out. I've got friends, they have kids. It's a already hard in the city just because. But just to add that on your plate, it's kind of tough."
The Washington Redskins defensive line has also gotten involved in helping the city of Flint and has donated 3,600 bottles of water.
