The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and the National Football League (NFL) have collaborated to release a collection of bespoke footballs in celebration of Super Bowl 50. Featuring the most stylishly designed sports balls, the pieces showcase 50 designs from top designers, which will be up for auction Jan. 20 through Feb. 14 on the NFL site.
The balls carry a gold theme for the Super Bowl's 50th year, but designers were also given free rein in using other materials for their creations. Some balls were decorated with lace, fabric, gems and studs, creating coveted masterpieces.
Participating designers include Betsey Johnson, Prabal Gurung, Rebecca Minkoff, Kenneth Cole and Rachel Zoe. The collection will also be on display in San Francisco until after the Super Bowl on Feb. 7.
"We are pleased to partner with the NFL once again on this creative endeavor, which highlights CFDA Members unique talents and passion for creativity while giving back to youth and important fundraising initiatives," said CFDA's Adam Roth in a statement according to Time Magazine. "With our collaboration, the NFL offers a unique take on the iconic football, particularly for women who care about fashion and also love the game." The proceeds of the auction will help fund the NFL Foundation.
This is not the first time NFL and CFDA worked together. In 2014, the league and the designer organization also collaborated creating stylish football helmets for auction, according to Who What Wear.
