Leaked screenshots of a new interface for SnapChat are allegedly circulating online, showing that the app is eyeing an upgrade through incorporating video calling, audio calling and making stickers available.
Currently, the chat app has minimal features and only allows text and photo exchanges. Video calling is possible, yet it would require both ends to be online and to simultaneously and continuously press the on-screen button.
If the leaked images are indeed that of developers testing the new chat features for the app, now dubbed ChatV2, then it would appear that Snapchat is headed for a huge shift, and is possibly trying to take on the likes of Facebook's Messenger app, according to Business Insider.
Snapchat has not commented on the issue so there is no information as to when the updates would be available, or if they are even true. How the app looks in the leaked photos could very much change from now until it is finally made public. However, it won't be a shock if the upgrades push through soon, given how Snapchat's 200 million user count is still far-flung from Facebook Messenger's 600 million. Perhaps updating its messaging features would increase the chances of making users feel that they no longer need to leave the app to switch to other chat apps, according to Engadget.
