Brian Williams: News Anchor To Return To MSNBC Primetime To Cover Iowa Caucus

Former "NBC Nightly News" anchor Brian Williams will return to primetime news on MSNBC almost a year after he was suspended by NBC for misrepresenting events he covered as a reporter during the Iraq war, according to Variety.

Williams will co-anchor the coverage of the Iowa caucus with Rachel Maddow on Monday. The pair will handle the coverage from New York, whereas Chris Matthews, Andrea Mitchell and Chuck Todd will report from Des Moines, Iowa, TheWrap reported.

Williams was suspended without pay for six months after he claimed that an RPG hit a chopper he was on during his time as a reporter in Iraq during the war.

"I told stories that were not true. Over the years, looking back, it is very clear. I never intended to. It got mixed up. It got turned around," Williams said in an interview on "Today" in June.

While this will be the anchor's first time on primetime since his suspension, Williams' has been anchoring coverage of daytime news for the network since his return in September, including Pope Francis' visit to the U.S., as HNGN previously reported.
