Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston is under investigation for an alleged sexual assault said to have taken place in 2012. Below are 3 things we know.
1. The sexual assault allegedly occurred in the early hours of Dec. 7, 2012, at an apartment in Tallahassee, Fla. A police report, which doesn't mention Winston by name, was filed with police later that day.
The report indicates evidence was collected from the victim. It also describes the suspect as between 5-foot-9 and 5-foot-11 and weighing 240 pounds with a muscular build.
Winston is listed by FSU as 6-foot-4 but, as Deadspin points out, police reports are "notoriously inexact" about such details.

2. The investigation has been ongoing since the report was filed, yet the state attorney just received the complaint on Wednesday.
"State Attorney Willie Meggs would not confirm that the investigation is of Winston but said an 11-month-old complaint was turned over to the Leon County state attorney on Wednesday after media inquiries were made to the Tallahassee Police Department," the Miami Herald reported.
TMZ suggested on Thursday that the Tallahassee Police Department tried to cover up the alleged crime to keep the FSU star out of trouble. TMZ's sources in the State Attorney's office say it's unusual and "suspicious" for the office to just be notified of the complaint this week.
Winston's lawyer also said he thought the investigation had concluded in February without his client ever being charged.
3. Both the complainant and Winston are cooperating with investigators, according to the Tallahassee Democrat. The State Attorney's Office confirmed on Wednesday the case is open and the investigation ongoing.
FSU is aware of the sexual assault allegation but would not comment further because of the active investigation.
UPDATE (4:30 p.m.): Winston has exercised his right not to speak to police, according to ESPN.
