Scandal Season 3 Episode 7 Spoilers: Mellie Is Waiting for Olivia and Fitz to Run It's Course; Bellamy Young Talks her Character's Plans for the Future

All the “Jalivia” fans out there are probably cheering for Mellie/Fitz—or Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) and anyone else for that matter, just as long as he’s not with Olivia (Kerry Washington).

So far all of you out there still waiting for Mellie/Fitz, Bellamy Young is right there with you.

In a recent interview with TVLine.com, Young, who plays Mellie, explained that her character’s decision to ask Olivia to aid Fitz campaign was a part of the bigger picture.

“It’s as if Mellie is chewing razor blades to have to ask anything of Olivia, much less that, but sometimes when you love someone, you have to do things that absolutely kill you,” Young tells TVLine. Mellie has a thousand-yard stare. Mellie’s playing the long game.”

Young explains Mellie is still waiting for this thing between Olivia and Fitz to come to an end.

“She is, I think, hopeful that this Olivia thing will run its course, and when he comes to the other end of it, he will remember who was by him, who had his back, who was steadfast — and that’s Mellie,” said Young.

Although Mellie may not know it, the events form the past couple shows have actually gone in her favor. Olivia, with the help of Jake (Scott Foley) and Huck (Guillermo Diaz), have figured out Fitz may have shot down a commercial flight, killing passengers on board—including Olivia’s mother.

According to the preview for tonight’s episode, Olivia Pope & Associates will begin to look into the death of mama Pope. Scott Foley recently told EOnline he read the script for this episode and though it was crazy.

Mellie will also try to work on her image in tonight’s episode. Young tells TVLine the people of America blame her character for causing the strength to stray in his marriage. To help her image Mellie will give a televised tour of the White House.

You can catch the preview for tonight’s episode below. Do present circumstances mean Mellie has a chance with Fitz? Or will Fitz want to be with Olivia no matter how she may feel about him?

“Scandal” airs Thursdays at 10/9c on ABC. Check out Bellamy Young's full interview with TVLine here.
