A Florida man was arrested on Thursday after authorities said he fatally shot his wife who was eight months pregnant with twins -- one of which survived, CBS News reported.
When officials arrived at the Orlando home of Michael Boyce, 33, he said his 23-year-old wife, Alexis Boyce, shot herself in the head. However, as they continued investigating the scene, he reportedly said he accidentally shot her.
Police arrested Boyce on charges of first-degree murder and was taken to an Orange County jail.
The victim was found unresponsive in the living room. Both she and one of her twins were pronounced dead.
The other twin survived the attack and was taken to the neonatal intensive care unit Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women and Babies. He was listed as in critical condition on Thursday night.
The parents of the victim, who were living with the couple, said they heard gunshots from their bedroom.
Alexis Boyce's father called 911 around 5:20 p.m.
Investigators said they did not find any evidence of abuse between the couple, who had been married for about a year.
Boyce is scheduled for arraignment on Friday. Records do not show an attorney listed for him.
In August, another Florida man was arrested after he allegedly tried to hire a hitman to kill his wife and other family members.
Jason Dennis Simione, 39, reportedly wanted his wife, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, and nine-month-old son dead. He was charged with three counts of solicitation to commit first degree murder, threatening to discharge a destructive device, and child abuse due materials discovered in his home -- threaded galvinized pipe caps, nails, gunpowder, wire, and batteries.
Broward Court Judge John Hurley set Simione's bail at $5 million.
"The court is concerned with his alleged willingness to hire a hit man to kill everyone in his family, including his own child," Hurley said.
