Nokia is giving its existing Lumia PureView smarpthone owners a chance to enhance their photography skills by introducing its popular Nokia-exclusive "Refocus" app to Lumia 1020, 920, 925 and 928 smartphones.
Nokia has gained a strong ground in the smartphone market with its Lumia lineup and is ensuring that its customers get the full benefits of all its services. The popular "Refocus" app that was unveiled alongside Lumia 1520 with 20 megapixel PureView technology last month, is making its way to other smartphones with PureView technology, according to a report in tech2, a tech media site.
"This new way of taking photos is a great example of computational photography. We've now got the ability to change a photo once it's taken and have a photo that simply couldn't have been taken by a traditional camera," reveals Adam Fraser on Nokia's blog.
The imaging application allows users to shoot photos and change focus on multiple levels in a single image. Users can focus on a particular subject in the picture while the rest will be indistinct. This is possible as the app shoots between two to eight photos "depending on what's in view, each of five megapixels at a different focus that'll be aligned and forged together to make one image." By tapping on a subject in a picture, the app focuses the subject bringing Lytro camera-like photographs. The app is now available for Lumia 1020, 920, 925, and 928 models.
See how the application works here on Nokia Refocus website. Click different points on an image and see the app focus on that subject for you.
In addition to changing focus on different levels, the app also includes Nokia's Color Pop tool so you can control the colors in your shots. Users can choose to have the focused subject in one color while the rest of the image in black & white.
The app will be pre-loaded in Lumia 1520 that will be launched in the U.S. through AT&T, Friday, Nov. 22. The app works with the latest Amber software update. Users can update their Lumia smartphone and download the app here for free.
