After more than 30 years in the business, Cindy Crawford is ready to say goodbye to modeling.
In a recent interview with United Airlines' Rhapsody Magazine, the iconic supermodel and mother of two revealed that once she turns 50 on Feb. 20, she plans on retiring. She's celebrating the huge landmark with her book, "Becoming Cindy Crawford," about her life in pictures, which is her way of saying goodbye to her days as a model.
"Or maybe not say goodbye," she explained. "But move on...I'm sure I'll have my picture taken for 10 more years, but not as a model anymore. And that's OK. I've done it. I've worked with all these incredible photographers. What else do I need to do? I can't keep reinventing myself. I shouldn't have to keep proving myself. I don't want to."
Crawford's last major modeling job before the interview was a huge one, as she teamed up with Naomi Campbell and Claudia Schiffer for Balmain's SS16 campaign, according to Us Weekly. After such an impressive career, this was a nice way to say goodbye. She also loves being a wife to businessman and former model Rande Gerber and a mother to their 16-year-old son Presley and 14-year-old daughter Kaia, who is aspiring to be a model herself.
"They are all taking pictures of themselves, or having their friends take pictures for their social media," Crawford continued to tell the magazine of her daughter's blossoming career. "Kaia would be modeling even if she weren't modeling. All the girls are modeling. They are not dependent only on how a photographer sees them. They have a direct relationship with their fans."
Looking back, Crawford does not regret her career whatsoever, as it was always a passion of hers.
"I was like, I love my job, but am I really that superficial that I just love getting my hair and makeup done and looking beautiful? And what I realized was that what I really love and am passionate about is communication," she added. "And the way that I have been communicating for the past 30 years has been through pictures."
While her stunning daughter Kaia has already landed some major gigs, Crawford wasn't so quick to throw her into the business. "As I got older, I realized more and more that I wanted to get into the world of modeling," Kaia told Teen Vogue for the December/January issue. "After shooting a Young Versace ad when I was 10 years old, all I could think was, this is it!"
She went on to explain that her mother didn't want fame to have its way with her since she was so young. "She told me that she would support me regardless of what I decided, but I'm so glad that I actually got to be a kid before having to grow up," she added. "My mom knows best about this kind of thing...She taught me to have a thought behind every single pose. That way, when you look at the photos afterward, it feels deeper than just staring at a blank face."
