The Los Angeles Dodgers hired former Toronto Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos as the team's senior vice president last month. They made more notable additions to one of the best front offices in the MLB on Tuesday.
Greg Maddux and Raul Ibanez will join the Dodgers as special assistants to president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman, the team announced this afternoon.
"The Dodgers announced Tuesday that in their roles, Maddux and Ibanez will assist in all aspects of baseball operations, including scouting, player development and working with the club's players, both at the Major League and Minor League levels," writes Ken Gurnick of MLB.com.
Maddux has previous experience working in an MLB front office. He served as special assistant to the GM for the Chicago Cubs and most recently the Texas Rangers. Maddux and the Rangers parted ways this offseason after a four-year relationship.
The Hall of Fame pitcher finished his career with the Dodgers in 2008 and registered a 355-227 record with a 3.16 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, 3,371 strikeouts and four Cy Young awards in 23 MLB seasons.
As for Ibanez, the retired slugger was a managerial candidate for the Tampa Bay Rays last offseason, but the club hired Kevin Cash instead. He was hired last March to become a studio analyst for FOX. This will be his first role working in a front office.
Ibanez has been out of baseball since after the 2014 season. He has yet to officially announce his retirement, but it's safe to say that's likely the case now that he has accepted a front office job with the Dodgers.
The 43-year-old played 19 MLB seasons and owns a career stat line of .272/.335/.465 with 1,055 runs scored, 305 home runs and 1,207 RBI in 2,161 games.
He's most remembered for his two heroic home runs as a Yankee during Game 5 of the 2012 ALDS against the Baltimore Orioles. Check them out below:
