It turns out Star Partners and Hummingbird Prods are collaborating on the production of a sequel to the iconic 1946 Christmas classic "It's a Wonderful Life" by Frank Capra that starred Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed.
According to Variety, the sequel will be called "It's A Wonderful Life: The Rest of the Story." It is reportedly slated for a 2015 holiday release and will look to draw in a lot of the older actors to bridge the gap between the first and second and a lot of the younger actors, now grown, to carry on a new generation of the story.
Karolyn Grimes, who played George Bailey's daughter "Zuzu" in the original will return for the next installment of the movie as an angel who shows Bailey's unlikeable grandson (also named George Bailey) just what the world would look like if he had never been born.
Grimes was responsible for bellowing the iconic line "Every time a bell rings, an angel gets his wings!" in the original. The story surrounded Stewart as a troubled father of a family who tries to commit suicide on Christmas Eve but is saved by a similar guardian angel showing him what the world would look like without him.
As of right now there's little talk of casting but it's known that producers are looking at original cast members Jimmy Hawkins, who played Tommy Bailey, and Carol Coombs, who played Janie Bailey, to reprise their roles.
"The new film will retain the feeling of the original, and it simply must be shared," Grimes said. "I've probably read close to 20 scripts over the years suggesting a sequel to 'It's a Wonderful Life,' but none of them were any good. The script by Bob Farnsworth and Martha Bolton was wonderful, and I wanted to be involved with his version of the film immediately."
The original "It's a Wonderful Life" was nominated for five Oscar awards including Best Picture. What do you think about brining the story back for a future generation? Comment and share your thoughts on the "It's a Wonderful Life" sequel with us below.
