In a recent interview Demi Lovato said that while she respects Miley Cyrus' "different journey" she feels the "Wrecking Ball" singer's talent may be getting overshadowed by her crazy activities of late.
Miley Cyrus has been in the news for all the wrong reasons recently. Even with her single "Wrecking Ball" topping charts, it seems that the negativity surrounding her VMA performance is still following her and Cyrus probably has only herself to blame.
So what does her colleagues think of Cyrus? In a recent interview with Katie Couric on her talk show, singer and "X Factor" judge Demi Lovato revealed that she feels Cyrus' talent is getting overshadowed by her "crazy" deeds.
"I think she knows what she's doing. A lot of artists take that route of shock value and that's totally fine and that's great, but I think that she has such an incredible voice that's overshadowed by some of the things that she's doing," Lovato said on the show.
"You know it's her journey, she's having fun, she's being who she is and will always love her. She's been one of my friends since I was 14, but everyone's on their different journey's right now and she's doing that and having fun, so power to her!"
Lovato completely understands Cyrus' need to transform from the sweet girl-next-door Disney star to the celebrity she is today. Lovato too was a Disney actress earlier in her career so she understands how difficult it is to grow up in front of America.
"I think that the world kind of needs to get over the fact that she was Hannah Montana when she was like 16 or whatever...Same thing with me, but I guess my transition was a little different because I went straight to rehab, but-I didn't twerk, I just went to rehab," she revealed. "It's something that is just-nobody knows her, and nobody knows who I am, and same with Selena Gomez and Jonas Brothers and everybody that's grown up in front of the public eye. We're adults now...I'm 21 and I'm nowhere near the same person that I was when I was 15...so go a little easy on us America."
Lovato has always praised Cyrus for being true to herself, even when she was heavily criticized for her "Wrecking Ball" naked get-up. She revealed that though it may not seem like it, Cyrus very much knows what she's doing and has her head right on her shoulders.
That definitely wasn't the picture Cyrus gave when she lit a joint onstage at the EMA after receiving the "Best Video" award for her latest single. The singer justified her act saying she did it for her fans, knowing all too well that they would love her act.
Reports had it that Cyrus was warned to leave her "bad behavior" at home when she performed on the X-Factor's result show, according to an Express report. Show officials warned that they would mute her mike or cut short her performance if she did anything too racy on stage. Though Cyrus did pay heed to the warnings, controversies still surrounded her X Factor performance last night. Reportedly, the singer refused to pre-record her vocals before the show, leading to her sounding completely off while performing onstage. While the singer didn't receive extra points for her courage to sing LIVE, critics slammed her vocals and fans were left disappointed with her comparatively tame performance, reports Hollywood Life.
