Mayor Rob Ford, who recently lost many of his powers as leader of Toronto after admitting to smoking crack and making lewd sexual comments, said on Tuesday that he is done with drinking.
During an interview with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Ford pledged that he was finished with the bottle, just one day after the Toronto City Council ruled that the Mayor would only function as the leader of Canada's largest city in title.
CBC's chief correspondent Peter Mansbridge met with Ford on Tuesday for an interview, according to USA Today.
"You're done with alcohol now?" Mansbridge asked.
"Finished," Ford said resolutely.
"You'll never drink again?" Mansbridge said.
"Finished. I've had a come-to-Jesus moment, if you want to call it that."
The day before, the Toronto City Council engaged in a rowdy meeting with the figurehead mayor, where he exhibited strange behavior including barreling through a councilor standing in a few feet away from him. Following the meeting, Ford spoke to the press to reiterate a message he's been trying to get across for months: that he is aware of his wrongdoings, but that it wouldn't stop him from pushing even harder in the next mayoral election.
"Mark my words, friends, this will be outright war in the next election," he said after the hearing, which he called a "coup d'etat." "I will do everything in my power to beat you guys."
Ford's push from power comes after the 44-year-old mayor admitted to smoking crack cocaine, made comments on live television about his sex life with his wife and was caught on camera threatening to "kill" someone.
