Sony's next-generation console sales have been strong. The company revealed this week that, in the space of 24 hours the PlayStation 4 has sold over one million units in North America alone, putting the company well on track for the most successful games console launch in recent history, if not all time.
According to IGN, while the sales figures are strong, the resale figures are even stronger, especially on eBay. According to the online auction site, more than 10,000 of the original one million were sold from November 15-17. Factoring the systems sold since the beginning of the month, that figure trumps 15,000 and, as of yesterday according to IGN, there were about 13,000 PS4 listings on the site. If you look closely at the successful sales, the system has been regularly selling for more than $500 or $600. At retail the PlayStation 4 sells for $400.
eBay has also announced that with the next-gen system from Sony hot off its release and the Microsoft equivalent, the Xbox One, on its way at the end of the week, sales of previous generation consoles has seen a 25 percent increase on the site, when compared with the sales from ten days prior to the event.
The PlayStation 4 has not yet launched in Europe or Japan where it will be released on November 29 and February 22 respectively. The company has said that it is aiming to sell five million consoles by the end of March of 2014. It's unclear as of yet if Sony will be taking any world records with the sale of the PlayStation 4 or how it will fair in comparison to Microsoft's Xbox One. However, one thing is clear and that is that the beginning of the next-generation console releases has started incredibly strong.
