OnePlus 2, one of the most memorable mobile devices to hit the market recently for its cheap cost despite top-of-the-line specs, is poised to delight fans even more as its maker announced that it is permanently dropping the device's price tag from $389 to $349 in the U.S. The company has also slashed prices in the U.K. and the rest of Europe.
It is not yet clear what precipitated the price cut. There is a vague information, however, that cited the adoption of the "Goldilocks principle" at OnePlus' production process, which allows the company to manufacture its devices at significantly cheaper cost. This was revealed in a OnePlus statement posted at its forum.
It is important to note that OnePlus is already operating according to a streamlined business model that allows it to sell what the company calls "flagship killer" phones at significantly lower price. The "invite-only" approach in purchasing a OnePlus device, for instance, is part of this model. The savings incurred particularly in the absence of marketing cost is passed on to the consumers, Android Authority noted.
Consumers who have purchased a OnePlus 2 device recently at its original price need not fret. The company is offering a $40 refund for those who already bought a OnePlus 2 in the past 15 days, according to Recombu. It is now available at OnePlus online store.
There are analysts who are now wondering whether the price drop will affect the sales of the OnePlus X, OnePlus 2's little brother. The reason is that there is now a small price difference between the two devices. This is issue would, of course, be addressed if X's price goes down in the coming days.
