Both Manchester United and Manchester City are preparing offers for Barcelona superstar Neymar, according to the Sun. Despite the incredible success Neymar has had at Barca, Neymar's father and agent confirmed the Neymar clan would quit Camp Nou if a better deal presents itself.
"There is no reason why he should sign a new deal at Barcelona." Neymar, Sr., said according to the Sun.
Both clubs are prepared to offer $1.4 million USD per week for the Brazilian. This is a raise from his current contract, but Neymar is seeking branding, according to the Metro. As long as both Messi and Neymar remain at Barca, it will be impossible for Neymar to step out from behind Messi's shadow.
Upon joining United, Neymar would instantly become the face of the most recognized club in soccer, giving the Brazilian worldwide recognition. The global appeal of United aside, if the Red Devils are unable to qualify for the Champions League they will lose out on Neymar, according to GOAL. Money is a non-factor, as United was reportedly prepared to meet Neymar's $208 million USD buy out last summer, but the deal eventually fell through.
City might lack the global marketing power of United (for the time being anyway) but it has something United can't offer: manager Pep Guardiola. The allure of playing under a manger with the reputation of Guardiola is surely enticing. Guardiola is set to take over the club in the summer and will have a small fortune at his disposal to spend on players.
Not to mention City currently sits in third place in the Premier League and has a much better chance to qualify for the Champions League.
It is likely that money will not play a big role in Neymar's decision - instead it sounds as if the form of the club, the branding the club can provide and the management will be determining factors for Neymar. Otherwise, why would he quit a club where he earned a Ballon d'Or nomination?
