The Los Angeles Kings placed veteran defenseman Christian Ehrhoff on waivers on Wednesday. He has not fit in well with the team at all, having just 11 points in 40 games, and a more telling team worst -10 rating, according to NBC Sports' Jason Brough. The-33-year-old only has two goals and nine assists, while averaging around 15 minutes of ice time.
He had just signed a one-year, $1.5 million deal with the Kings in August. Ehrhoff has had trouble staying with a team lately, as the German has gone through three teams in the last three seasons. He spent last season with the Penguins, and the three seasons prior to that with the Sabres, before having the final seven years of his 10-year, $40 million contract bought out by Buffalo, as his last season with them had him at an abysmal -27 rating. Ehrhoff is a pending unrestricted free agent, and if he gets picked up, would be a $475,805 cap hit to the team that claims him.
With Ehrhoff in the AHL, it would give the Kings room to move up another player, and they are currently looking for more talent as they are playoff bound. It is reported that Ontario Reign's Kevin Gravel may be called up as a replacement.
The Kings are coming off a great 9-2 win last night, with Ehrhoff contributing with two assists. He has 74 career goals and 263 assists for 337 points in 781 games since joining the league in 2003.
