Season 4 of "Orange is the New Black" is only a few months away, and there is a new inmate at Litchfield prison. Last season, actress Blair Brown joined the hit Netflix series as cooking show host Judy King, who bears a strikingly familiar resemblance to a famous ex-inmate - Martha Stewart. Brown and her castmate Samira Wiley, who plays Poussey, sat down with TV Guide to discuss the next season of the show.
"I think a lot of people think, 'Oh, she cooks, so she's like Martha Stewart.' 'Oh, she Southern. She's like Paula Deen.' She's actually Judy King, a creation of Jenji [Kohan] and the writers," Brown explained in the video. "She's a very interesting character, constantly surprising to me. Sometimes I get a script and I'm like 'I'm going to say that?'"
Fans of "Orange is the New Black" may remember that Brown's character King was sentenced to time in prison at the end of Season 3 and checked into Litchfield prison in the last episode, much to the delight of Poussey, who is a huge fan of King. While fans may make the natural connection between King and Stewart, the actress says there is more to her character.
"She's slightly appalling and very good, and very cheerful, and probably fairly amoral," she continued. "And it's interesting to watch because she's so other than anybody else in prison. And of course, Judy's greatest ally when she comes in is Poussey Washington."
"Orange Is the New Black" returns Friday, June 17th on Netflix.
