The St. Louis Rams finished in third place in the NFC West this past season, and while the team has officially become the Los Angeles Rams, many problems still remain. The biggest questions for the Rams heading into this offseason is the most crucial position for any team in NFL, quarterback.
The Rams traded for quarterback Nick Foles prior to the 2015 regular season, but the move didn't work out as planned as Foles was benched midseason for quarterback Case Keenum. Rams head coach Jeff Fisher has said Keenum is the starter going into the offseason, but many expect that to change, as the Rams are expected to make some moves in player personnel this offseason.
Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch could be the top target for Los Angeles in the 2016 NFL Draft, and the coveted quarterback could make a strong fit with the Rams, according to Daniel Jeremiah of College Football 24/7. "They've got to get the quarterback position figured out. They've tried a bunch of different guys, it hasn't worked. I think with the weapons they have with Todd Gurley, with Tavon Austin, get a mobile quarterback that can move around help you out a little bit in the run game," Jeremiah said. "We've seen Cam Newton run that quarterback power, I can see Paxton Lynch doing the same think in that offense."
Lynch is projected as a first round prospect by most draft analysts, and ESPN's Todd McShay projected him to land with the Rams with the 15th pick in the draft. Rams owner Stan Kroenke has been known for making big splashes in the past, and drafting their future franchise quarterback in the first round of the draft seems very possible.
Lynch was projected as the top quarterback by many analysts throughout the college football season, but a poor performance in Memphis' bowl game against Auburn hurt his draft stock. The 6-foot-7, 245-pound quarterback will still have growing to do in the league, but is consider one of the best quarterbacks in the draft and could be the potential franchise quarterback the Rams have been looking for.
