Bruce Springsteen is set to release an autobiography titled "Born To Run" and the memoir will be out in September, the rock star announced on Thursday on his official website.
The autobiography has been in the works for the last seven years. Springsteen started working on it in 2009 after his halftime set with the E Street Band at the Super Bowl.
The book, named after his famous 1975 album, will be published by Simon & Schuster and will describe his early life in Freehold, N.J. and his career as a musician.
In "Born to Run," Springsteen "vividly recounts his relentless drive to become a musician, his early days as a bar band king in Asbury Park, and the rise of the E Street Band," the statement reads. "With disarming candor, he also tells for the first time the story of the personal struggles that inspired his best work, and shows us why the song 'Born to Run' reveals more than we previously realized."
"Writing about yourself is a funny business," Springsteen notes in the book. "But in a project like this, the writer has made one promise, to show the reader his mind. In these pages, I've tried to do this.
"This is the book we've been hoping for," said Simon & Schuster publisher Jonathan Karp. "Readers will see their own lives in Bruce Springsteen's extraordinary story, just as we recognize ourselves in his songs."
Springsteen's life has previously been documented by others, including Dave Marsh and Peter Ames Carlin, but this is the first time the rock legend will be penning it himself. The 66-year-old singer also co-wrote a children's book called, "Outlaw Pete," published in 2014, according to CNN.
Springsteen, who is currently on "The River" tour, recently announced a new leg of the tour and new dates for concerts across the United States, as HNGN previously reported.
"Born to Run" expected for release on Sept. 27.
