Hugh Jackman's latest Instagram post was a shock to his followers, as usually the positive actor revealed a health scare and offered a word of warning for his fans: use sunscreen!
The 45-year-old heartthrob recently posted a photo of himself with a bandage on his nose, along with a caption detailing the advice his wife of 17 years, Deborra-Lee Furness, gave him that may have saved his life, Us Weekly reports.
"Deb said to get the mark on my nose checked. Boy, was she right! I had a basil cell carcinoma," he wrote. "Please don't be foolish like me. Get yourself checked. And USE sunscreen!!!"
While the "Wolverine" actor gave no further information on his brush with basil cell carcinoma, a rare form of skin cancer that arises in the skin's basal cells in the form of abnormal growths or legions, he appears to have gotten the mark removed. Although basil cell carcinoma rarely kills, it can cause disfigurement to skin and surrounding tissue and is thus considered malignant.
Fans responded with surprise and concern, offering health advice and words of encouragement, and were relieved to know that Jackman's wife caught the mark early on and that he is alright. Yesterday, the actor uploaded a goofy video showing off a new tap dance routine he had learned, and Entertainment Weekly recently reported that he will be hosting TNT's annual holiday Christmas event, "Christmas in Washington," which will be taped in Washington, D.C. on Dec. 15 and aired on Dec. 20.
Additionally, Jackman may make his return to the big screen playing the Wolverine for the seventh time if the right script comes along, according to the Wall Street Journal.
