Samsung has hired the world's greatest soccer player to captain the human soccer team against aliens, for an ad.
Lionel Messi is arguably the best footballer the world has seen in a very long time. The Argentinean is often counted among the likes of Ronaldo, Pele and Maradona. His swift moves and excellent dribbling skills have rightfully earned him nicknames like La Pulga, Atomic Flea and Messidona. Among his Barcelona teammates, he is fondly referred to as Leo. As Messi is sidelined for the rest of 2013 following his leg injury during Barcelona's win over Real Betis Sunday, Samsung has shown the footballer in action defending the human race against aliens.
The latest video ad shows Messi featuring his dribbling skills as he dodges black shiny cars that supposedly belong to some sort of secret government organization. Messi dribbles the soccer ball across the streets and makes his way past a restaurant, top of the cars and bikes that chase him all along. Finally after being corned, Messi is offered a Captain's "C" by the former soccer superstar Franz Beckenbauer in a match against the aliens hovering overhead.
The 70-second Samsung ad is a part of an ongoing #Galaxy11 campaign. With the first phase uncovered in the latest ad shown on YouTube, Samsung will further reveal the ten other soccer stars who will join Messi in the Human vs Aliens soccer match over the coming weeks. Samsung has revealed two other players, German footballer Mario Götze and Oscar of Brazil, while the other eight are yet to be announced.
The campaign is to promote the Galaxy lineup in a very interactive way. Samsung has listed some of its gadgets in the equipments that will lead Galaxy 11 to victory. These include, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Gear, Galaxy Note 10.1, Galaxy S4 Zoom, Custom Galactic Battle Suit and XT2 Gravitational Variance Ball. We are assuming the latter two gadgets are to give the campaign a more realistic feel.
