Virginia Tech plays Michigan State on Friday. Tipoff is at 9:30 p.m. ET. A link to the live radio broadcast is provided below.
No. 1 Michigan State is 4-0 to the start the season, but Spartans coach Tom Izzo is unimpressed. The team's slow starts in the first halves of games has Izzo concerned about how his team will match up against the ranked teams they'll face throughout the season.
"I think it will be good for us in the end," Izzo said, via ESPN. "Nobody has to worry about us peaking in November."
Center Adreian Payne leads the Spartans in scoring with 17.5 points per game while grabbing 7.8 rebounds per game, and swingman Branden Dawson leads the team in rebounds with 9.5 per game.
Michigan State has overcome sloppy starts, but the team may not be as fortunate when they face the Hokies.
Freshman forward Trevor Thompson is making an impact and leads the team with 7.3 rebounds per game. Jarell Eddie is coming off a 21-point game where he went 5-for-5 from beyond the arc; he leads the team with an average of 16.5 points per game.
"That opens it up for the rest of the guys," Virginia Tech coach James Johnson told the team website, via ESPN. "A couple of drives to the basket, if we drove it to Eddie's side, (VMI) didn't want to leave him open and we were able to finish at the basket. When Eddie plays like that, he helps everyone on the floor out."
Virginia Tech is 3-1 so far.
