iQi Mobile Adds Seamless Wireless Charging To iPhones

iQi Mobile offers seamless wireless charging comfort to iPhone devices through Lightening ports. The charging system supports iPhone 5, 5S, 5C and iPod Touch 5G devices.

Wireless charging is getting popular with more and more devices adopting the technology via Qi standard. Most recently, Google and Nokia added the functionality for their flagship Nexus 4 and Lumia 920 smartphones, respectively. However, many companies are yet to give the Qi standard a try, such as Apple. The Cupertino-based tech giant is known to avoid any technology, which it doesn't believe in. But third-party companies have long been offering accessories that go with best selling smartphones.

In a similar approach, iQi is offering an extra accessory for iPhone devices that facilitate seamless wireless charging experience. The London-based project has already reached its $30,000 goal with more than a week still in hand, and is further aiming at reaching $50,000.

iQi Mobile is a very thin charging device that sits on the back cover of the phone covered with any soft case available in the market. The charging device that fits on the phone is 0.5mm thick at its thinnest point and 1.4mm thick at its thickest. The device connects to the lightening port of the iPhone then wraps behind the iPhone and tucks inside the protective case, barely visible and without affecting the thickness of the phone.

Once the iPhone is set with iQi Mobile, it just has to be placed on a charging dock. iQi offers its own charger called Koolpuck, which is a round device and is 70mm in diameter. iQi Mobile can charge an iPhone with any Qi wireless charger, like the ones from Nokia or the official Nexus 5 charger. You can also order Koolpuck if you do not have a wireless charging plate.

The iQi Mobile charger can be pre-ordered on Indiegogo for $25 and the Koolpuck charger will cost you $90. The charging station comes in two colors, white and black, with seven different color silicon rings. The shipping is free in the United States but Canada users will have to pay $15.
