Reality TV personality Angela "Big Ang" Raiola is still alive, a representative confirmed in a statement posted to Raiola's official Twitter account. The star of VH1's hit reality TV show "Mob Wives" is still alive and is continuing her battle with stage four lung and brain cancer, despite contrary reports and rumors circulating on social media on Wednesday night that claimed the star had passed away.
"This is a representative of Angela's personal social media. The news that has been reported is TOTALLY INACCURATE," the statement read. "Please respect her family, and their privacy at this time. All of the media outlets currently reporting this are reporting FALSE INFORMATION. No direct information has been given, and will not be given any time soon. Angela is still in the hospital surrounded by her loved ones, and is fighting. Thank you."
Various outlets, including tabloid Radar Online, reality TV blogger Mr. Real Housewife and entertainment news site Entertainment Tonight all previously reported the news that a "family source" had confirmed Raiola's death on Wednesday night.
The 55-year-old native Staten Islander was diagnosed with throat cancer last year and underwent surgery to remove a lemon-sized tumor from her throat, as previously reported by HNGN. She was recently diagnosed with stage four brain and lung cancer and she opened up about her battle with her illness on a recent episode of "The Dr. Oz Show."
Raiola's sister, Janine Detore, told local newspaper The Staten Island Advance that Raiola isn't "doing well." Stephen Spinelli, Raiola's attorney, said he could not reveal details of her health status but he confirmed that the reality star is currently hospitalized.
"Ang is surrounded with her loving husband and her family," Spinelli told the Staten Island Advance, "who loved and supported her through her illness and her life."
