BlackBerry to Stop BBM Music Service

BlackBerry has announced that it will be putting an end to its BBM Music Service effective June.

BlackBerry announced Friday that it will stop its BBM Music Service from June, 2013. The announcement was made through an email sent to all the subscribers of the service. The mail stated that April will be the last month subscribers will be charged the $4.99 subscription fee because from May, songs on the playlist will start graying out and won't be accessible.

"BBMT Music service will be discontinued as of June 2, 2013. For paying customers, April is the last month that you will be billed. In May, as your BBM contacts stop using the service, songs in your playlists will begin to turn grey and will no longer be available," read the mail.

BlackBerry had been offering the service for less than two years and received a lot of subscriptions for it. BBM Music was launched in 2011 and allowed people to share up to 50 songs with BBM contacts. Experts say that the decision to shut down the service is probably because they want to promote their new Rdio service. It offers an on-demand access to more than 18 million songs.

As a consolation, BlackBerry is providing BBM Music subscribers a 30-day free pass to Rdio.

"Though BBM Music is going away, you can still listen to great music on your BlackBerry. We're giving you a 30-day pass to Rdio, which gives you unlimited, on-demand access to more than 18 million songs, including the latest hits and classic albums," the company said in their email.
