Adele's appearance at the 2016 Grammy Awards was a reminder that anything can happen on live television. During the performance of "All I Ask" at Sunday's award show, the singer fought sound issues throughout the entire song and opened up about the situation on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show."
"Next time I have any sound issues, I am gonna stop. I'll be like, 'Sorry, that's not working for me. If we have time to do it again, let's do it, otherwise, bye!'" she said.
The singer revealed that the incident really upset her and that she "cried pretty much all day" after the show. Immediately following her performance, Adele took to her personal Twitter account to tell her fans that the audio issues stemmed from a problem with the piano.
"Sound check was great - went really well. I was really excited and then during the changeover, the microphones fell onto the piano strings which is what the guitar noise was," Adele told DeGeneres. "Some people thought it was Bieber rehearsing, but it wasn't him. We're on great terms. And then it kind of put the whole thing off really."
Adele told DeGeneres that she knew something was off "straight away," but she could do nothing due to the performance being live on TV.
"I wanted to turn. I knew what it was because in rehearsal on Saturday they were like we're going to double mic the piano just in case one doesn't work," the singer said. "And I knew where the mic was and I wanted to turn around and lift it up, but I froze. But I actually felt like it went well."
