Supreme Court Service Held For Justice Antonin Scalia

A small ceremony was held at the Supreme Court Friday in honor of the late Associate Justice Antonin Scalia. One of his sons led the proceedings.

The flag-draped casket was carried into the court's Great Hall, USA Today reports.

Catholic priest Rev. Paul Scalia said a prayer over his father, who wax 79-years-old.The eight remaining justices, 98 former law clerks, Scalia's eight other children, his widow Maureen and several grandchildren were also present for the service. President Barack Obama will be paying his respects later in the day.

Scalia was found dead at a West Texas hunting resort on Saturday. He was the son of an Italian immigrant and served on the court for nearly 30 years, USA Today reports.

Scalia was first appointed to the court by former President Ronald Reagan in 1986, according to Reuters.

Scalia will remain in repose for the rest of the day, Reuters reports. His funeral will be held Saturday.

The doors will be open to the public from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., CNN reports.
