Salman Khan allegedly received death threats from an anonymous caller, causing the Mumbai Police to launch an investigation, said an official on Monday, according to Hindustan Times.
The Police Control Room received the threatening phone call on Feb. 16. The cops have managed to trace it back to the location the call was made from, but have not yet found the man responsible for the call as it was made from a public phone. Khan's security has also been tightened in wake of the death threat.
"We received a call from the control room about the incident and were informed that it was a PCO number from Marine Drive area," said a police officer stationed at the Marine Drive police station, according to The Deccan Chronicle.
"The PCO is situated near a furniture shop. We had checked the CCTV footage situated in the same area but none of the CCTV covers the PCO so we could not trace the caller. We called Salman and asked whether he received any threat call but he said that he has not received any threat calls so far," he added.
The police said that the suspect called in a seemingly inebriated state saying, "Salman Khan ko main goliyan marrunga (I will shoot Salman Khan)," according to Business of Cinema.
"Our crime branch team is also working on the case to trace the caller and to find out the reason behind his threat call. We will soon find the person and take action against him," said a top police official.
