Oakland Shooting at Park Leaves Seven People Injured: Shots Fired in City's East Side During Evening BBQ Critically Injure Two

Seven people were wounded after shots were fired near an Oakland, Calf. park in the city's east side Monday evening.

Police first received calls from residents reported they'd heard gunfire at about 6:08 p.m. near 96th Avenue and Olive Street near Verdese Carter Park in East Oakland, according to Officer Johnna Watson, who spoke with the San Francisco Chronicle.

Law enforcement officials are still unsure of how many people were involved in the shootout, nor are they aware of a potential motive, but police did tell CNN that the shooter or shooters, approached a group of people holding a barbeque at the park and opened fire.

The seven wounded people were all men, aged between 23 and 31. Two are reportedly in critical condition.

"This is really kind of outrageous," Oakland police Chief Sean Whent told the Oakland Tribune. "Six o'clock at night isn't that late at night. So, really pretty brazen stuff on the street corner at that time of day."

When officers arrived at the site of the shooting, they uncovered yet another crime scene closeby, at 94th Avenue and Sunnyside Street.

"Obviously we're hoping some people will come forward and provide some information that would help us solve it," Whent concluded. "We're actively investigating it."
