If you think "Game of Thrones" fans are impatient while anxiously awaiting for the sixth season of the hit HBO series, you should talk to book readers who have been counting the days until George R.R. Martin releases "The Winds of Winter." Unfortunately, Martin already announced that the sixth novel in his "A Song of Ice and Fire" series will not be ready before the upcoming season. However, he is willing to tease a few big upcoming developments.
Martin spoke with IGN and revealed that he has decided to follow through on a huge twist he's been contemplating for the upcoming book.
"I have decided to do that, yes," he said. "Will you know it? I don't know. It's fairly obvious because it's something that involves a couple characters one of whom is dead in the show but not dead in the books. So the show can't do this, unfortunately, because they've killed a character that I have not killed."
Who could this character be? Is it Stannis, Myrcella or Shireen? There are roughly 15 characters that have been killed off on the show but are still chugging along in the books, so this little hint doesn't narrow it down much.
In addition to his brief "Winders of Winter" tease, Martin also talked about his writing delays, his previous work on "Game of Thrones" and the dueling narrative timelines of the show and books. You can check out his full interview below.
"Game of Thrones" will debut its sixth season on HBO on April 24. There is no timetable as of now for the release of Martin's "The Winds of Winter.
